Trampoline Fun

Boo acts and appears so healthy I often forget until it's shot time that there's anything different about her. I made that mistake today.

It started off perfectly. This morning we got dressed and packed a picnic lunch and blanket for the park. We arrived, played for an hour or so, sat down to eat, and then it was about time for the trampolines to open. Boo met a cute little girl who didn't speak English, but they had a lot of fun bouncing together. Boo was jumping for like 30-40 minutes at least.

Afterward, she went to play on the play structures with the little girl, when my ears perked up at some English. A little girl named Lennox (Lenny), who is 3 next week, was there with her mother, Devon, a nurse from Seattle who is taking a two-year "break" in Europe while her husband works for Amazon. They've been here about 8 months. Not just an American, but a fellow West coaster!! It was awesome to talk to someone who understood slang and colloquialisms and could speak as quickly as I do. I had actually just reflected an hour or so earlier that being confined all day to just me and Boo for the most part and both of us being further confined by the language barrier can be quite lonely. In Korea, I had my fellow teachers to talk to and go out with. Here, it's me and Boo. And while I'm still practicing my French, I'm gone in 3 months. I'm keeping it real: that isn't quite enough for immersion or super progress so I'll probably come away not much better.

Devon told me about a park about 10 minutes away shaped like a pirate ship with water features. If it wasn't going to be in the 60s tomorrow, we would be there first thing! But this weekend is supposed to be sunny and hot so we will check it out. Maybe tomorrow will be a good day to finally check out the fair.

After the park, we said our goodbyes and started walking home. Boo told me her leg hurt, and it was the one with the bum knee. You can't even see the swelling anymore because the drugs have done so well, but her knee was noticeably more bent and she was limping. So now she gets some iPad time while the knee gets iced and I feel terrible. Looks like I gotta limit trampoline time to around 15 minutes.

  1. Just caught up on the blog. I'm so excited you get to go adventuring again, especially with the little one in tow this time. I love you, Amy, and hope you all have a blast!
